In celebration of birthday season around here, we're taking you back to last year's co-birthday bash for Mila and Brixton, better known as #toddlersgettropical. It was originally featured on Domino, and here are even more photos. Hope you enjoy!

When we started to plan the theme, we were inspired by a dream Mexican destination wedding. I loved the idea of having the table filled with living things (rather than a runner) so we had an abundance of coconuts, pineapples, mangos, papayas and baby bananas.
In a nod to Mexican lanterns, I turned to Prospect Goods for seven of their gorgeous crystal pinatas in copper metallic, which we turned into a garland overhang.

We believe that kids’ parties should be brought up to an adult level of beauty and comfort. Adults should enjoy it just as much as the kids. So that starts with serving high-quality food, drinks and cake. If you can sit down and enjoy a beautifully prepared lunch with your family, chances are that’s going to make for a nice afternoon.
Flowers are usually my number one priority, but for this we decided to just do a single monstera leaf in a glass water bottle, several of them scattered along the table.

Whisk and Whittle made the pièce de résistance with a three-tier cake that served as our centerpiece. They also made us copper cake stands to round out our vintage brass stands from Borrowed Blu.

Comida served their South American street eats. We love their arepas (gluten-free flatbread made of ground corn meal) — they grill them fresh and then fill them with your choice of meat. They top them with incredible homemade sauces like chimichurri and piconesa (Peruvian spicy mayo).

We thought the photo booth was a really fun addition this year. We had a local artisan take inspiration from the Beverly Hills Hotel wallpaper in painting the tropical leaf backdrop. We then made several paper bird masks to give it a fun, kid-friendly feel with pops of color. Above: Juliette Lewis and her niece. Below: Laurén (Twink), Gina Ribisi, Ellen Bennett and Beth Riesgraf.

It's Mila's birthday week! So I'm reminiscing and looking back. Here's a peek at her 2nd birthday. You may remember it from 100 Layer Cakelet (and as one of their favorite kids birthday parties of 2014). Hopefully, I've included a few here you haven't seen before.

I had planned an elaborate balloon overhang, à la Geronimo Balloons, but my helium resource fell through. So I went to plan b by criss-crossing twine amongst the trees and hanging the balloons from there.
These were literally the last batch of coral peonies for the season.
I love this gold twine for the cutlery so much. I hope I can figure out something as good for Mila and Brixton's birthday party this weekend!
All resources listed here.
I loved Twink's all-time favorites yesterday! So I've put together some of my own to share with you today.
My goal is to create the softest, coziest, sleepiest bed ever. So incredibly soft sheets from Hudson Park are essential.
I owe it to Twink for showing me the way of the One&Only Palmilla. She honeymooned there and knew I would love it. She was the right, it made for an incredible destination wedding.
I’ve tried other bath robes where you’re just soggy, but the greatest thing about this RH bathrobe is that it actually dries you.
I have the driest skin but I love that this Beautycounter tinted moisturizer make my skin look dewy.
It wouldn't be a Twink + Sis list without kombucha. I am obsessed with Revive -- my current favorite flavor is Spring Fling, although I do love Tropic Wonder too.
My go-to sandal for the summer are these gladdies from FitFlop. So easy and comfortable.
How much do you love things that help organize your kitchen? This utensil holder from Williams-Sonoma has been the perfect fit.
I like my jewelry to be simple, understated and minimal so I love these Alexis Bittar Miss Havisham crystal teardrop earrings.
The most delicious coconut water, Taste Nirvana.
Most weekends I find myself in Montecito. It's just over an hour drive to this glorious beach town so I like to take advantage of our beautiful coast as much as I can.
Wishing you lots of beach time this summer! xoxo
Happy Cinco de Mayo! Last year we made a delish Blood Orange, Basil & Jalapeño Margarita for National Margarita Day! We thought we'd share it again today in case you were so inclined to celebrate with this organic cocktail that packs a major punch! xx
This Sunday is not only The Academy Awards, but it's National Margarita Day! Now that we are pro-mixologists (see yesterday's post), we concocted the most delicious (if I do say so myself) margarita for you to enjoy on this special holiday. And it's the perfect drink to serve your guests while watching The Oscars. I used pure, organic silver tequila with fresh squeezed lime juice, muddled basil and jalapeño and made my own blood orange simple syrup. Here's how it's done -
For ONE serving you will need:
2 oz. Silver Tequila (I am really digging IXÁ, an organic, small batch tequila)
1 oz. Fresh Squeezed Lime Juice
1 oz. Blood Orange Simple Syrup (recipe below)
3 - 5 Basil Leaves
2 Thin Jalapeño Slices
Ice
___
First, make the simple syrup. If you don't own an electric citrus juicer I highly recommend this one from Breville. I love it.
Blood Orange Simple Syrup Ingredients:
3/4 Cup Fresh Blood Orange Juice (about 8 blood oranges), strained through a sieve
3/4 Cup Organic Sugar
1-1/2 Cups Water
Combine all ingredients in a sauce pan over medium-low heat, stirring until the sugar has completely dissolved. Allow to cool. Store in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3 weeks.
__
To make the drink:
Muddle jalapeño and basil until fairly broken down.
Add tequila, lime juice and blood orange simple syrup. Add several ice cubes and shake vigorously for about a minute.
Pour the liquid through the strainer over ice. If you like my large spherical ice cubes, you can get the molds at Williams-Sonoma.
Cheers to the greatest National Margarita Day ever!!
