We designed a picnic birthday party for JustJared founder, Jared Eng. Jared wanted a masculine and refined picnic party and we were all for it! Our goal was to make his guests feel like they were at a real, park-like picnic, with fun games and activities, but with elevated food and decor. Brace yourself for tons of photos (we had a hard time narrowing down on this one -- too many details!!!) and endless summer party inspiration!!

Doing a birthday party for a man is something that we don’t get to do very often! We wanted to make it really festive and celebratory, yet sophisticated. So we really played up woods and fresh greens as our main focus. The food table was covered in wood crates, boxes and trays — the continuity of all that wood helped to set the tone. Then we sprinkled in a bit of white (serving pieces and pots) for a touch of modern contrast.

The Iris + Daughter hanging greens installation was one of the main focal points of the party — it was so fresh and alive — really stunning. The splash of copper in the custom signage (from A Dapper Line) added a fun, modern feel to the table.

Jared wanted classic picnic food, so we went with Heirloom’s yummy sandwiches, a crostini station (filled with cheeses, breads and flatbread pizzas), a green salad, pesto quinoa salad and fresh fruit. We topped Aheirloom’s gorgeous handmade cake stands with eye-popping donuts from Donut Friend and the pièce de ré·sis·tance — an over-the-top, mega delicious caramel drip cake from Whisk and Whittle

We love using sustainable palm leaf tableware from Leafware and it looked perfect paired with the pretty blue marbled napkins from Meri Meri.

Sometimes the smallest details make us completely giddy. This time is was all about the brass ants from Arteriors Home. Many guests (and our amazing vendors) were equally smitten. They were definitely a conversation piece!

We loved seeing Jared and his godson, James Knight, playing and having a great time together at the party. So so sweet.

The other main focal point of the was the large wooden boat filled with ice and drinks! We had so much fun with that. We made an organic mint lemonade, spiked with vodka and pre-poured them into mason jars. We sealed the jars and tossed them in with the ice (ready for guests to grab), along with a variety of other drinks. We parked a vintage bike behind it and added a cluster of Geronimo fringed balloons. It turned out quite handsome, and festive!

We had a variety of potted plants, succulents and cactus to place around the main food table and at various seating areas at the party. This is a great way to incorporate fresh elements without having to do floral arrangements, especially if your party decor is on the masculine side. You can either give them away as party favors when your guests leave or keep for yourself as home decor.

Weaving in some green into lounge chairs is a simple way to add a summery and festive twist to your outdoor furniture.

Jared really wanted to have blankets on the grass to make it like a real "picnic in the park." We are obsessed with the hand-woven Turkish towels from Odd Bird Company. We layered different prints in blues and greys, and added a mix of pillows on top for cozy lounging. We placed extra blankets in a wire basket where guests could grab one and make a “picnic” wherever they liked. He also wanted polaroid cameras so his guests could take pictures for him to have as keepsakes, so we put together some trays with the cameras and added other fun items like dominos, chips, popcorn and a pretty plant.

A staple for almost all of our outdoor parties -- mini kraft paper bags filled with kettle chips and organic popcorn (or whatever your favorite snack may be!) and place in a tray for guests to help themselves to. It's always a hit with adults and kids.

For your upcoming summer party, try placing some games around, in various locations, that your friends can partake in at their leisure.

Yesterday we took Brixton to Disneyland for the first time. It's something I have been wanting to do since the day he was born. Jason and I used to go to Disneyland all the time, so we were really excited to take him. It was "interesting" with a toddler. Haha. The concept of waiting in line is still a bit foreign to Brixton so we didn't go on many rides. ("It's A Small World" went the best of the rides we did do). He LOVED the characters. That was the best part for him.

And these are both obvious tips but the two other things I would change/suggest:

1. Go in cooler months. I don't think heat makes it any easier for kids who are already exhausted by the long day and over-stimulating experience. Next time I think we'll go during the non-summer months.

2. If you plan to bring a stroller, make it as lightweight as possible. My jogger (as much as I love it) was WAY too big. It was extremely difficult to get on and off the tram and navigating through the crowds. A small and light stroller is ideal.

My main concern with our visit was actually the food situation. So I spent a little time the day before to prep a picnic lunch and snacks, and I'm really happy I did. Before we left in the morning, I packed up our large camping cooler with the food and ice packs. When it was getting close to lunch, I went to the car for the cold food and brought everything back in a disposable bag. I tried to pack just enough food so that I didn't have to waste anything that wouldn't keep outside of the cold packs.

Disneyland doesn't have open grass for picnicking, so I set up our lunch on a lovely little bench at the beginning of Main Street. I brought a Turkish towel that friend Brandy gave to me as our "linen." I used a large piece of parchment paper as my "platter" which was tossed in the trash when we were done! I made egg salad sandwiches on Ezekiel bread, crudités with my favorite spinach and leek dip from Joan's on 3rd and cheeses, crackers and salami.

We love LA Croix sparkling water, which was nice and cold from the cooler!

The egg salad sandwiches held up well in the cooler too.

Brixton found his ideal woman in Cinderella.

And I found good lighting for a selfie.

Kisses for Mickey.

For dinner, we went to La Brea Bakery in Downtown Disney.

Pappardelle with sausage and braised short rib.

All fun days must end in ice cream. It's the law. We stopped by Häagen-Dazs in Downtown Disney for our scoops.

Till next time, Disneyland! You were great! xx

I couldn't be more excited to have one of my best gal pals - actress, photographer and super-mama, BETH RIESGRAF - as a guest contributor on the blog today! Known for her role as Parker on TNT's hit series "Leverage," Beth is the star of USA's upcoming drama "Complications."  She is beautiful, stylish and one of my favorite people. So, naturally, I asked Beth to share her MOTHER'S DAY gift guide picks with us! Let's see what's on her list!

I love her bangles and Sophia Monogram Pendant. (enter MOM15 at checkout and receive 15% off!) Beautiful jewelry made personal? #YesPlease

Pack a lunch, take your mom to the park, and repeat!  #MomDate

Well hell-oooo Mom Jeans!  I am forever a fan of the 70's-cover-girl look and every time I wear these high-waisted beauties someone asks me where they can get a pair. #SweetRearview

Your pretty mama will turn a few heads while cruising on this gorgeous model. The beautiful leather accessories and signature blonde balloon tires are the perfect combo of urban meets luxury. That's right. I said blonde tires. #Fancy

If your mom is far away or you forget to call her (tsk-tsk!) send her an organic fruit tree! It's a very sweet reminder to let her know how much you love her each and every day. #Awww!

Put the needle on the record, then gift her an album a month to help her build her record collection! #Vinyl

A hands-free solution for the fashion forward mom on-the-go! Guys, I know what you're thinking... but listen... Next time she's juggling the baby, dog, and your fresh pressed juice you'll be thanking me for showing you this is the perfect little #fanny.

You can buy and choose from an assortment of cool instant cameras and gear at Urban Outfitters like the Fujifilm Instax 210 Wide Format Instant Camera OR you could look online for a Polaroid 250 Land Camera. Choose one that has been AAA battery tested, has an updated battery holder, and comes with the user's manual. Either way, you can get really creative and put together a little book of polaroids for her! (and yes, this may take a little work... but if you can find one they are amazing. And please remember that your mother carried you for 9 months so it's sort of the least you could do. KIDDING) #WorthIt

Sleeping Beauty. This sweet night shirt is great for the mom-to-be! If you order now they will include a free sleep mask #Zzzzzzzz

You can customize your own box and shop the online gourmet market to choose from their extensive selection of sweet and savory products. The packaging is so lovely, and so are the treats! #LetThemEatCake

"901 too" is the best invention. It's a one-stop-shop for blowouts, braids, make-up, nails, lashes, and tanning. They offer online booking, and quality control is their specialty. Great for a little pampering,  a special night out, or a weekly pick-me-up. Call and ask about the monthly membership. #ReadyToGo

The pretty wooden crate includes a culinary-grade lavender plant, all-natural bath tea, soap and candle. My mom LOVES lavender, so this gift suggestion is made in her honor! #Janet

The perfect, cozy, movie room throw. Vintage kantha on one side, luxurious fuzz on the other. Each blanket is one of a kind, made out of 5-7 layers of 1970's vintage saris, and has been hand stitched. #Cuddle

The gift that gives back!  For each bottle of wine or bag of coffee sold, ONEHOPE is making a social impact by donating HALF of the profits to one of their 16 partner causes. Choose a cause that is close to your mom's heart, or surprise her with a club membership! #Sip&Give

Bring the spa to mom wherever she goes! These pure and natural oils will help relax, revive, and rest her system. #Breathe

This is literally one of the greatest inventions on the planet. Well, at least that's how she will feel after a long day on her feet! It's like having a personal masseuse, only you get to read and eat chocolate at the same time. #Footsie

My son and I love Dallas Clayton's art and stories.  They inspire us, make us smile, make us happy, and most of all, remind us that anything is possible.  #DreamBig

Thanks Beth!! xoxo!!

Beverly Hills' Roxbury Memorial Park was our childhood park growing up and it holds a really special place in my heart. It recently underwent a beautiful renovation and is now better than ever. At over 11 acres of beautiful greenery, it boasts two (SHADED!!!) playground areas, a sand/water play station and almost every sport court/area imaginable. Even if you don't have kids, it is a great place to go and relax with a book and get some fresh air. I like to consider it The Westside's mini-Central Park.

I love these pathways taking you into and around the path. The abundance of trees is really lovely.

The park has a lot to offer. You can play croquet, basketball, tennis, volleyball, lawn bowling, baseball and soccer to your heart's content.

Pretty pots and plants along the tennis courts.

Basketball and racquetball courts in full effect.

The lovely lounge area just outside of the recreation center, overlooks the park.

Super clean BBQ area.

Quintessential all-American baseball field.

I used to kick a ball around this field with my dad. Ahhh. Childhood memories....

As a parent myself now, I cannot express my gratitude enough for these shaded play areas!!!

Brixton couldn't get enough of the sand and water area.

Roxbury Memorial Park is located at:

NOTE: All parking surrounded the park is metered. Please note all parking signs. It is still Beverly Hills after all! ;)
