SILVERLAKE'S MAKERS MESS

Just last week our good friends, Brandy Lewis and Sara Flate, opened MAKERS MESS -- a new and beautiful art studio, in Silverlake. The studio offers art and design classes for just about everyone -- whether it be a girls' night out learning the basics of mixology or pom pom making for the kids. Over the weekend we helped to celebrate their opening with T-shirt decorating and a tour of their lovely space.

The kids had a blast decorating shirts. I can see Brixton enjoying many a class here.

Their gift area has really special pieces and cards, on beautiful custom copper and raw wood displays.

RORI'S ORGANIC ICE CREAM COMES TO SANTA MONICA!

Our very favorite ice cream, once only available in Santa Barbara and Montecito, has just opened a brand new shop in Santa Monica! Rori's Artisanal Creamery is the creamiest, highest quality ice cream out there and we just about lost our minds when we learned they were coming to LA. We stopped by over the weekend to celebrate their arrival.

These little hooligans couldn't get enough.

You can grab pints to-go, like I did.

BOOK LOVE: THE DAY THE CRAYONS QUIT

One of my best friends, Jodi, gave "The Day The Crayons Quit" to Brixton when he was a baby. The bestseller, written by Drew Daywalt and illustrated by Oliver Jeffers, has become quite the classic in our house. It is probably one of the funniest children's book I have ever read. Every time I read it, I laugh out loud.

When little Duncan goes to open his crayons, he finds a stack of letters from his crayons and they are all quitting! Each letter of complaint is hilarious. I like to read them in silly voices to Brixton. It's such a good one for the whole family.

A MORNING AT DESCANSO GARDENS

Mom/Grammie and I took the kids to La Cañada's Descanso Gardens for the most beautiful morning. I had forgotten just how stunning it is there. The overcast skies and cool weather made it feel like the beginning of fall and we were in Heaven.

Founded in 1953 by E. Manchester Boddy, Decasnso is home to 160 acres of gardens and woodlands, in addition to the gorgeous 12,000 square foot mansion, The Boddy House - available for wedding and private events.

The kids had so much fun walking around and exploring.

The kids were pumped for the Enchanted Railroad.

OUR FAVORITE FRIDAY NIGHT HAUNT: SOUTH BEVERLY GRILL

We first learned of the great Hillstone Group with R&D Kitchen in Santa Monica. You may have seen Sissy's recent post on The Honor Bar, Montecito. We are kind of obsessed. These guys just KNOW HOW TO MAKE A BURGER. I'm not sure if there's one I like better. Hillstone has mastered the art of adult and kid-friendly, upscale comfort food. And it turns out, that more often than not, Jason and I want to go to their Beverly Hills location - South Beverly Grill, on most Friday nights. It's upscale and beautiful inside but totally kid friendly. And did I mention that they make damn good burgers?! If you are looking for seriously good baby back ribs, they make some delicious ones too. South Beverly Grill also offers a special sushi menu that their other locations do not.
